Horizon 2020’s SME Instrument is a concrete solution for growth and job in Europe. By 2020, the first 155 project are expected to generate at least 12,000 new jobs, 115 new products, 81 new processes, 68 new services and €17 billion of cumulative turnover.
On the top 5 application areas of business ideas 42% belong transport and health, followed by energy (12%), manufacturing (10%) and water supply and waste (7%). First winning SMEs have some features in common: established (85% have more than 3 years on the market), innovation champions (50% were already recognised by prizes) and trading beyond borders (50% are trading on the global market while 75% on the EU market).
