Call for projects 2012: cancer biomarkers and functional imaging


This call covers any candidate-biomarker (including companion biomarker) or functional imaging marker intended to improve cancer prognosis through either a genuine early diagnostic tool and/or better indicators/predictors of treatment efficiency or of relapse and metastasis occurrence


Eligible Criteria
Financial support should be allocated to those entrepreneurs who can demonstrate their ability to initiate one or more genuine and feasible innovative project.
The application must bring to light relative elements regarding the proof of principle, the freedom to operate and the novelty.


Eligible applicants
The call is open to researchers or research teams within a university or a research centre, laboratories or (start-up) companies.
The projects must be initiated or developed by teams based in Belgium or international teams having established collaborative programmes with a Belgian-based entity, in this case the Belgian entity will be empowered entity for the achievement of the project.


Grants
Whole projects are not fully supported the grants allocated to successful applicant(s) will range fr up to €1,000,000 in one or more instalments.
The Foundation has opted for the principle of refundable grants only in case of success.


Application process
Applications must be submitted in English only using a standard application form available on the website http://www.ffmi.eu/


Project files must be submitted by e-mail to info@ffmi.eu by 31st March 2012 at the latest.

The application must pertinently address the following scientific and technical criteria on which the evaluation will be based (weighting factor between brackets)
1. Scientific relevance (3)
2. Medical need (3)
3. Innovative proposal and potential advantage against competitors (3)
4. Intellectual property existing or foreseeable patents (2)
5. Planning and budget accuracy (2)
6. Risk appraisal (success/failure ratio) according to preliminary data (2)
7. Established or intended validation process presentation (2)
