REMINDER

Life Sciences FP7 workshop to take place at BioTech Forum / ScanLab in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 28 September 2006.
On 28 September 2006 (09.30-12.00) the two initiatives SMEs go LifeSciences and Passport are organising a joint workshop in Copenhagen, Denmark, on "Helping SMEs & Researchers prepare for European Life Science related R&D projects" within the 7th EU Framework Programme (FP7).
FP7 will be presented by the European Commission, as well as details on the assistance and services provided by the two organising networks.

Online registration is still possible till 22 September 2006.

COMPETITIVE CALLS

Competitive Call for an SME to join the Euro-Thymaide Integrated Project.
The Euro-Thymaide network is looking for an additional SME partner (Small or Medium sized Enterprise) established in a Member State of the EU or in a state associated with the 6th Framework Programme, having comprehensive expertise in the following research areas:
1. Design of HLA-DQ8 and HLA-DQ2 allele multimers for analysis of type 1 diabetes-related effectors and regulatory T cells specific for insulin/IGF-2, GAD and IA-2 derived antigens.
2. Discovery of new MHC class II-restricted antigens involved in other autoimmune diseases for the purpose of designing MHC-II multimers (especially for HLA-DQ8 and HLA-DQ2) incorporating such antigens and the use of such multimers for detecting T cells specific to such antigens.

Competitive Call for Collaborating Centres in GA²LEN, the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network of Excellence.
The GA²LEN network is inviting European institutions and centres of excellence in allergy and asthma to become a part of the GA²LEN network as collaborating centres.
The profile of partner sought are centres of excellence in allergy and asthma as well as societies, working groups, companies, initiatives, etc active in the areas of allergy and asthma.

Competitive Call for an SME to join the MHOSAR Integrated Project.
The MHOSAR network, with research topic to control the antimicrobial resistance in hospital acquired and other health care associated infections, is looking for an additional SME partner interested in developing high throughput diagnostics tests for the detection of hospital pathogens like MRSA, VRE and Gram-negative bacteria carrying ESBLs. These companies shall be able to develop micro-arrays, proto-arrays, micro-fluidics or nanotechnology based tests, or any other cutting-edge technology.

Conference & Expo dedicated to the world of Biotechnologies to take place in Milan, Italy,
on 19 – 20 September 2006.

On 19 - 20 September 2006 the Conference and Exposition dedicated to the world of Biotechnologies will take place in Milan, Italy.
The Agency for the Promotion of European Research, APRE, the Italian partner of SMEs go LifeSciences will participate in the exposition session and will promote the SMEs go LifeSciences initiative in view of the opportunities for researchers and SMEs within the 7th Framework Programme (FP7).

"Is Personalized Medicine the Next Frontier for Pharmaceuticals?" conference to be organised in Brussels, Belgium, on 3 October 2006.
The objective of the conference and planned discussions, organised by the "Health" department of the Brussels Enterprise Agency, BEA, Belgian partner of SMEs go LifeSciences and the INSEAD Alumni Belgium Health Care Industry Group, is to find out if personalized medicine is the next frontier for pharmaceuticals. If yes, the question is, whether times are ripe for it and in which therapeutic area. The conference addresses an area, i.e. Innovative medicine, which will be a core target of FP7. Thus the conference will be an ideal occasion for SMEs, researchers and companies to make useful contacts for future FP7 "Health" projects.

Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe to be organised
in London, UK, on 11 October 2006.
The second European Forum of the Life Sciences Partnering China & Europe initiative is going to take place on 11 October 2006 in London, UK.
The initiative aims at promoting partnership, joint ventures and collaboration between the Chinese life science industry and emerging Biotech SMEs and development agencies from Europe.

RIGHT Symposium: RNAi – Reaching for Therapy to be organised in Paris, France, on 25 October 2006.

The FP6 Integrated Research Project RIGHT is organising a one-day international symposium on RNA Interference in vivo on 25 October 2006 at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. The objective of the RIGHT symposium is to present different findings in research on RNAi in vivo application and therapeutic approaches and to discuss novel strategies to diagnose and successfully treat severe unvanquished diseases.
